Mobile wallets let you pay with your phone or watch instead of a plastic card, both in shops that accept contactless payments and in apps and websites with an Apple Pay or Google Pay button. A wallet-eligible virtual card turns a card that exists only online into something you can tap at a checkout. This guide explains how it works with VEXORA’s Wallet Card, step by step, and what to expect in terms of costs and availability.

What makes a card “wallet-eligible”?

Not every card can be added to a mobile wallet. The card issuer decides which card programs support Apple Pay and Google Pay, and the wallet providers check each card when you add it. At VEXORA:

  • Wallet Card — a virtual Mastercard that works with Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as online payments.
  • Online Card and AI & Ads Card — online payments only; they can’t be added to mobile wallets.

Even with the Wallet Card, availability depends on the card issuer, your device, your eligibility and your country. VEXORA cannot guarantee wallet acceptance.

How mobile wallets protect your card

When you add a card to Apple Pay or Google Pay, the wallet doesn’t store your actual card number on the device. Instead, a separate device-specific number (a token) is created. Payments use that token plus a one-time code generated for each transaction, and you approve each payment with Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint or your device passcode. Merchants don’t receive your real card number at all.

That makes a wallet a good fit for a virtual card: the card details stay in your VEXORA dashboard, and day-to-day payments go through the token.

Before you start

  • A compatible iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phone with the latest system updates, and a screen lock enabled.
  • An active Wallet Card with a balance.
  • Your card details from the VEXORA dashboard.

Adding the card to Apple Pay (iPhone)

  1. Open the Wallet app and tap the + button.
  2. Choose Debit or Credit Card and enter the card details manually (number, expiry date, security code and cardholder name).
  3. Accept the terms shown by the issuer.
  4. When asked to verify the card, follow the prompts. You can get the wallet activation code for your Wallet Card in your VEXORA dashboard.
  5. Once verified, the card appears in Wallet. You can set it as your default card if you like.

To add it to an Apple Watch, use the Watch app on your iPhone and choose Wallet & Apple Pay.

Adding the card to Google Pay (Android)

  1. Open Google Wallet and tap Add to Wallet.
  2. Choose Payment card, then New credit or debit card.
  3. Enter the card details manually.
  4. Accept the issuer terms and complete verification using the wallet activation code from your VEXORA dashboard.
  5. Make sure contactless (NFC) is turned on in your phone settings so you can pay at terminals.

Paying with your phone

  • In shops: unlock with biometrics or passcode and hold the phone near the contactless terminal.
  • In apps and on websites: choose Apple Pay or Google Pay at checkout and confirm.

The payment is taken from your Wallet Card balance, so top up beforehand. A prepaid card can’t go below zero — if the balance is too low, the payment is declined.

Keeping track of wallet payments

Wallet payments show up in two places: in the wallet app on your phone and in the card’s transaction list in your VEXORA dashboard. The dashboard is the source of truth for your balance, because it also shows top-ups and the bank fees that the issuer deducts. A good routine is to glance at the dashboard after a day with several purchases and before any large one.

If you use the card on more than one device — for example an iPhone and an Apple Watch — each device gets its own token, but all of them spend the same card balance. Remove the card from devices you no longer use, and keep each device protected with a passcode, since anyone who can unlock the device can approve payments.

What it costs

The Wallet Card has a one-time price of $22 and, like other VEXORA cards, a top-up fee of 3% + $2 (top-ups from $5 to $5,000). In addition, the issuing bank charges per-purchase fees, deducted from the card balance:

  • 0.2% on Apple Pay payments,
  • 1% on cross-border payments,
  • $0.30 on payments under $50.

Declined payments are not charged. These bank fees appear as separate lines in the card’s transactions. For example, a $100 Apple Pay payment carries a $0.20 Apple Pay fee; a $20 online payment carries a $0.30 small-payment fee. Keep a little extra balance so these fees don’t cause a decline. Fees can change — check the current pricing before you order.

Troubleshooting

  • “Card not supported” or “Could not add card.” The wallet or issuer may not support the card for your device, region or account. Make sure you’re adding a Wallet Card and that your phone is up to date.
  • Verification failed. Check that you entered the latest activation code from your dashboard; codes can expire.
  • Payment declined in a shop. Check the balance (including bank fees), and whether the terminal accepts contactless wallet payments.
  • New phone. You’ll need to add the card again on the new device.

Honest limitations

  • Wallet support depends on the issuer, device, eligibility and country, and is not guaranteed.
  • Some merchants — such as hotels, car rentals and fuel stations — may require a physical card or place holds that don’t suit a prepaid card.
  • The Wallet Card’s per-purchase bank fees make it more expensive per transaction than the online-only cards; choose it when you actually need wallet payments.
  • The card provider doesn’t offer freezing or closing cards. If your phone is lost, remove the card from the wallet using the device-finder service (Find My or Find My Device), and contact support. You can return the unspent balance to your VEXORA balance at any time.

Summary

With a wallet-eligible virtual Mastercard, you can pay by phone in shops and apps without carrying another plastic card. Add the Wallet Card to Apple Pay or Google Pay manually, verify it with the activation code from your dashboard, keep enough balance to cover purchases and bank fees, and remember that wallet availability is decided by the issuer and wallet provider.

Frequently asked questions

Can every virtual card be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay?

No. Only cards that the issuer has enabled for mobile wallets can be added. At VEXORA that is the Wallet Card; the Online Card and AI & Ads Card are for online payments only.

Why does my wallet ask for a verification code?

Adding a card to a wallet usually requires the issuer to confirm that the card belongs to you. For the VEXORA Wallet Card, you can get the wallet activation code from your dashboard.

Are there extra fees for Apple Pay payments?

On the Wallet Card, the issuing bank charges per-purchase fees deducted from the card balance: 0.2% on Apple Pay payments, 1% on cross-border payments and $0.30 on payments under $50. Declined payments are not charged.

Can I use the card in shops?

Once the card is in your mobile wallet, you can pay wherever contactless wallet payments are accepted, subject to the merchant and your country.
